The Simplified, Accountable Structure Workshop You DO NOT Want to Miss This! Kay Kotan is a nationally known speaker and leader who has helped many churches to reshape their committee set-up and church structure to streamline administration and make more space for ministry. Meetings are not ministry! Let’s focus on ministry while making meetings fewer in number but larger in meaning. The Simplified, Accountable Structure Workshop is a deep dive into the why, what, and how to move into this model with both adaptive as well as technical shifts. Whether you have already moved to this model and need to hone your understanding for further implementation or are considering the move, you will find this workshop well worth your investment of time. Topics covered are: who should and should not move into this model, setting up the organizational chart, leadership covenant, guiding principles, the leadership rhythm, and much more! Kay will be joining us March 25 from 9:30-3:30 at Chester UMC for a joint event hosted by the James River and Richmond District. All districts are invited to participate. Churches of all sizes would benefit from considering moving to a simplified, accountable structure, so please mark your calendars now to join us. We would love to have the pastor and a few key lay leaders from many of our churches! Contact Andrew Book or Maria Maxwell with any questions. Find registration information at www.richmonddistrictumc.org

One-half unit of continuing education will be offered for those who read Susan Beaumont’s book “How to Lead When You Don’t Know Where You’re Going: Leading in a Liminal Season” in preparation for the retreat.  (Available through Amazon in various platforms; District funds available for the book if you have no accountable reimbursement funds.)

Alignment 2020: Connection Opportunities

Virginia Conference congregations have a lot of programs. When you look at your church’s programs, how well do they perform at disciple-making? Are church leaders measuring disciple-making at all? Join Virginia Conference Director of Connectional Ministries (DCM) the Rev. Dr. Ted Smith for the “Programs to Disciple-Making” webinar on Feb. 25 at 7 p.m. as part of Alignment 2020: Connection Opportunities.  Join the webinar at the link: https://zoom.us/j/454201287.
Participants will focus on the essential steps necessary to help churches transition from doing programs to doing more intentional disciple-making. The webinar will last 45 minutes and will include time for discussion and questions.
Alignment 2020: Connection Opportunities is the way the conference Connectional Ministries office is better aligning with the conference vision and as a resource to local churches. Be on the lookout for monthly webinars with topics such as discipleship, podcasts from Smith and ongoing ways you can provide your feedback to the conference office.
